Show And Tell
Okay, time for the animal show. A bunch of pictures, for your hopeful enjoyment.
Starting off with Mads of course. The star of the show. At least according to himself.
The boy on the right is Santana, who often shows up to help with feeding.
Boys being brave with Mads. The girl who presented him was quite brave actually. As I told, I had to help her a bit with getting him out of the fold. But other than that she didn’t seem to be afraid of him at all.
A girl showing off her turtle. What a cute little thing. It was her own turtle, not the playground’s. The kids could show off animals from the playground or bring their own if they wanted to.
Boys will be boys.
And boys always like to borrow the camera and muck about. Taking pictures of themselves.
That’s the judge. He is giving the turtle a closer look.
Can you guess who that is, in the above picture? I’ll give you a hint. It’s Crazy Chicken Guy. If you still can’t guess it then you’re really bad at this game!
The judge and Kurt coming over to inspect Mads.
The girl had to walk Mads around in a circle. As you can tell, Mads had other plans.
She did manage to get him to walk around in the circle though. And then the judge said “Do you think he wants to go back to the other goats now?” and the girl said yes. And the judge said “well, you better take him back then”. As you can tell by the picture, she didn’t really get to take him back. It was as if Mads thought “okay I have paraded around in a circle in front of all these people, enough is enough. I’m done”. And then he dragged the girl off the field and right back to the goat fold.
Magnethe and Vanilje did not participate in the show this year. But Mads did uphold the goat honour by winning a gold medal. Actually, I think the medal was more awarded for all energy the girl spent trying to get Mads to comply with her orders. But don’t tell Mads that! I’m sure his ego has expanded a size or two because of the glory and admiration.
The lambs didn’t participate in the show part itself, and neither did the piglets. There were less “big” animals this year, but more bunnies and chickens. Less people than previous years too, the threat of rain probably kept a lot of people away. It did rain a little but thankfully not enough to spoil anything.
And the biggest animals of them all did walk around the circle as well. The horses. They were a lot more co-operative than Mads!
A boy and his bunny.
A boy in the mud.
That’s bouncy girl, if you remember her. And the guy in the blue is the “other” Lasse. His internship is just about over so I’ll get back to being the only Lasse.
Alice holding a boy.
Can’t you just imagine that kid making crowd noises and pretending to be winning a huge marathon race?
A mother and her cute little girl.
A girl and her bunny.
It looks like he just lost the big game, doesn’t it?
Running out of chairs I guess.
“I think the bunny would go well over here”…
After the judge had seen all the animals he went and deliberated with Kurt. They came back with medals and diplomas. For everyone. This being a kid’s show it was obviously not a serious competition. So there were no losers. But there were gold, silver and bronze medals. And one girl did get a little unhappy that she only got a silver for her bunny. But I think she got over it pretty quickly.
When everybody had gotten their prizes it was time for lemonade and cake. But first a tradition.
Kurt getting Mini and Dotty out on the field. Normally it’s a big mama sheep who is part of this tradition. But since there are no big mamas at the moment, the lambs had to do.
Can you guess what is going on? It’s rather bizarre actually. There’s a circle made of sawdust. And broken into numbered parts. The sheep, or Mini the lamb in this case, is tied down with rope in the center of the circle. She then walks around and eats grass. And you wait until she poops in one of the numbered sections. And the people who have picked the right number wins! Yup. Did that make sense? You have to predict where the sheep will poop. It makes a bit more sense when you have huge mama sheep who is ready to drop a large… deposit. But it worked with a tiny Mini lamb too. And it’s a rather funny scene, a circle of kids cheering and trying to egg on a lamb to poop on the respective numbers they have picked. Wacky.
And Mini was just walking around in the circle like nothing was out of the ordinary, munching on the grass. Not taking notice of anyone or anything. Hehe.
After that was done and people had their cake and lemonade it was time for the “crazy kitchen”. Basically it’s a stall with fine china. Plates and cups, you know. And then a line of kids with tennis balls… and a whole lotta smashing and klangs and kerrbangs.
All in all, good fun. And a proud day for Mads, of course.
If you’re not tired of pictures then there’s a whole album here. 105 shots. I went too far with the touching up. Oh well, what else is new. But I think there’s a lot of cute and sweet stuff. It was a good time.
On a slightly more downer note, I was feeling bad earlier today. As detailed in the livejournal. I am better now though. My mood still swings as the seasons, sometimes.
And now, finish.

We have cheese-rolling, you have sheep-pooping. It’s a funny world.

We have cow pie bingo (the cow drops a big poop on a number). Small world!
That’s a beautiful rooster that “Crazy Chicken Man” is looking at. I think he and I would have lots to talk about (with you translating, of course).
The colors are so bright in your photos and the kids look so happy and intent on what they were doing. I can almost hear them talking with chickens clucking in the background. I see more photos with the moon cars in them. I still want one, Plumey!
I hope you get to feeling better. You’ll have those days but think of them as a little reminder of how far you’ve come. And you’ve come a long ways, my dear danish goat boy. It’s just a little, teeny, tiny part of you, not your whole being. You are a very smart, funny, humorous, photogenically talented, animal loving, goofy, sensitive person.
We wouldn’t want you any other way. Now go forth and purchase a garden gnome for the new place!

Man, that looked like so much fine! I like the fact that the children participated. It helps with the self-confidence and self-worth. Can you tell it’s the teacher in me that’s talking?
I’ve heard about the poop bingo. Wow, if the cows and sheep found out, maybe they’d want a piece of the action, too!
Now, if only humans had that….
Mmmmmm…..

Yuck, Luis Lemmings! Remember that children’s book years back? Something like “Everybody Poops”. It had pictures of animals like elephants, cows, deer, etc., and then a human boy. I guess to show all beings have to do the basic call of nature.

Stu – I wonder if those two things could somehow be combined.. hmm…
Debster – Do you think the animals feel we are too obsessed with their droppings? Hehe.
I bet the Crazy Chicken Guy could translate if you wanted to talk to the chickens. That’d be a fun translating chain. Chicken -> CCG -> Plume -> Debster. And we’d probably have to translate for Mads too, he’d want to know if we were talking about him and his amazing price-winning performance!
How much would it cost to ship a mooncar to the states? Maybe I’ll just have to drive it there myself! America is almost as far away as the moon, as far as I know.
I am feeling better, thank you. How can I not with all those nice words?! My ego is going to swell to the size of Mads’s head soon.
Luis Lemmings – It was fine fun! I think the playground in general is great for the kids. Not only do they get to be around animals but they get to take care of them and have responsibilities too. And I’m not even a teacher talking! (although my dad is. A teacher. Not talking. Well, he might be. I don’t know, I’ll have to ask him when he gets back from Sweden).

I remember that children’s book “Everyone poops.”
The one I had, though, was a pop-up.
July 10th, 2007 at 3:11
Maybe a “poop-up”? hee, hee, haaahaaaa, I am so funny, I make myself laugh!
July 11th, 2007 at 20:41
Okay people. The next person who says “poop” gets an official time-out!
July 14th, 2007 at 0:02
That is super-cute! Awww…..
I love the poop-bingo. We loaned out our water buffalo to a group that did the same thing… a water buffalo ‘deposit’ is hard to miss!! :D
