Where Others Cling

I have some bad news. Today I got an email from Desirée. She had news from her mother. About the kittens. And unfortunately they are gone. The kittens. She speculates that a mink has taken them. Apparently it lived close by? I don’t know, the details are still fuzzy to me. But the kittens are gone. Little, wonderful Luna who I was looking so much forward to meeting and loving. I can’t stand to think of it. She was so beautiful and sweet and I already thought of her as mine. I guess that was a mistake…

How can you miss someone that you have never even met?

My visit to the eye doctor went fine. Nothing wrong with my eyes, he said. That’s funny. Cause they seem to be leaking now.

OH MY GOD, PLUME!! That is awful, awful news!! I am in shock!!

What a terrible thing to have happened. I would have understood if that happened in a more rural part of the area. I didn’t know where the poor kittens lived.

I’m so terribly sad for you, Plume. I think we were all looking forward to that wonderful blue-eyed kitten and all the great photos you’d be taking of her.

Such a terrible thing to occur. I didn’t know that minks can be that evil to attack kittens.

Here in California you’re not allowed to keep minks or ferrets or anything like that as a priviate pet for the reason that many think they will attack dogs and cats.

I am just so sad and shocked. I’m truly, terrible sorry for what happened, Plume.

Unfortunatley, you can miss something/someone you’ve never met.

    :(

My eyes have been leaking a lot too…

Most likely the mink has escaped from a minkfarm somewhere. I knew kittens and cats live a dangerous life in the countryside where my parents live, but I never in my most awful nightmares thought a mink would be their biggest threat. In fact, I was much more worried about the road past my mum’s house, because although there aren’t that many cars, they drive awfully fast.

I’m so, so sad. But you already know that.

Plume, I’ve just spoken to my mum. She’s been out to look for the kittens several times today, but no luck. She’s proper upset too. She’d decided to keep Ginger, you see. And we’d decided to keep one of the snowy twins. And Luna was going to Aarhus. Mum’s blaming herself saying “oh, but if only I’d…” and “Did I close board the doghouse properly” and “Maybe if I’d…” e.c.t. I know they were “just” kittens, but they were – our – kittens. Mummy cat has been inside all day looking lost. She’d been to look in the doghouse a few times when my mum’s been outside, but then just curls up on a chair inside again. Just a few days ago, the kittens where running around my mum’s feet in the kitchen, playful little balls of fur. *sigh* I shall never again feel sorry for the minks that went into making a fur coat!

    Hugs,
    Desirée

I’m so sorry Plume. What an awful thing to have happen. I’ve gone thru something similar when we’ve had kittens outside. Sometimes a tom cat will kill them. I would image minks, etc., would do the same thing.

And yes, you can miss something/someone you’ve never met. That’s understandable. Of course you are upset. Anyone as sensitive to animals as you are would be upset.

Take extra good care of yourself today, okay? We’re all thinking of you and Desiree and her Mom.

Desiree: Please tell your Mom not to blame herself. She had no control over predators and unfortunately these things do happen to outside kitties.

  7. LuisLemmings Says:

Desiree: just like Debster said, it was an accident. No one is at fault for this.

  8. Belinda Says:

Oh hun. I am so, so sorry. That is such an awful thing to happen.

Many hugs are being sent your way tonight.

  9. Corrie Says:

Very sad news indeed, I’m so sorry to hear. I have such a soft spot for kitties :C If I feel bad, then I can only imagine how you feel, dear Plume :C

  10. Plume Says:

Thank you guys. You’re the best.
And yes Desiree, I hope your mum knows I don’t blame her either. We’ve all lost something dear..
