When It Snows It Pours

Brrrrrr.
It’s been a cold day. Lots and lots of snow covering little old Denmark.

And little old me had to go out in it. The snow, as it were. I had a doctor’s appointment. For diabetes blood test. So I had to go climbing snowmountains. It’s not a lot of fun. It’s not a lot of fun at all to walk around in the snow when you can barely see. I tell you that. But my dad came along to help me and I had my cane. I managed to not fall and break my leg. Can’t complain.

And the blood test was quickly done. No worries. The nurse said that she wanted to do the big yearly test and then I should come back in a week and talk to the doc about the results. I asked if we couldn’t do the yearly one next time I come in, in March. Hopefully by then the snow will be gone and it will be less hassle for me to go downtown. She agreed to it, and we just did the small quarterly test. Which I will get the result of in my emailbox. Much, much easier. That was quite nice. I really want to go outside as little as possible in this weather. I have a hospital appointment in a week and a half, for the secondary cataracts, but other than that my schedule is empty for the rest of the year I think.

The nurse was very nice all in all. She remembers me, asked how I was doing and so on. She asked me if I had lost weight. She thought so. I’m not sure, she doesn’t see me very often so I wouldn’t trust her on it. But it’s always a nice thing to hear anyway.

Since I was already outside and dressed up in warm clothes, I thought I might as well take the chance to go see the goats as well. And so I did. I sort of toyed with the idea of going out back and sitting on the bench with them. Despite the horrible cold, I was sort of looking forward to seeing them outside in the snow. But as it were, when I got there they were inside and the hatch was closed. They quite possibly were snowed in. In any case, I had to settle for staying inside with them. On the bright side that was of course a lot less cold. Out of the bitterstrong wind. Some of the birds were inside too. What are they, budgies? Canaries? I’m not sure. Little tweeting things. They’re usually outside in the cage up against the goat house. But they’d been brought inside, in a cage next to the goat pen. Shielded from wind. The wind is much too cold for fragile, little things like birds. And Plumes.

I didn’t stay too long. Even inside it was still very cold. Even so, a family came by. A couple of kids with grandparents. They fed some carrots to the goats, and the goats were very appreciative. I don’t think they get too much company when they’re snowed in. Not many visitors. When I left they baahed and baahed. “Doooon’t leave uuuus”. They sure know how to make me feel guilty!

When I came home I took a good, long, hot shower. I wonder how much it would cost me if I stayed in there all day? A 24 hour warm shower sounds pretty good to me right now.

It would be too cold to leave budgies, canaries, or cockatiels outside when it snows. Take me a picture of your “unknown” birdies and I’ll try to identify them.

Are you sending me some of your snow? We have a chance for flurries on Thursday, Fri, and Sat. My husband starts deer hunting on Saturday.

And before anyone says: “Oh, the poor deers!” Motorists in our state have a 1 in 67 chance of hitting a deer while in our cars. We are the #2 state in deer-car collisions in the US.

    Nothing in the mail yet????

We saw the cutest little baby goatzie today when we went to look at a job to bid. Its little horns were just coming out. It came right up to the fence and let me pet its furry little neck. There seemed to be only one goazie.

I brought warm water out for our boys and girl to drink tonight. Billy took a really big drink of water, then looked up at me and smiled. Nothing better than a big goazie smile!

Holo moly, there’s a lot of snow! Are you snow-storming yet? We’re not going to get any of the white stuff this time around, but then I think we had our fair share 8 months ago, so I won’t complain. As long as it stays white for Christmas, of course.

I love you Thanksgiving thoughts. I know it’s a cliché, but it is a good exercise to focus on the posisitves from time to time. Compared to a lot of the ppl I teach, we have a lot to be thankful. It really puts things into perspective hearing their horror stories from the wars from which they fled.

Does mean we can’t complain and have valid problems. Just means it’s good to be thankful and not forget our blessings!

I digress. Just wanted to tell you I sent you an email.

    Lots of love,
    Desirée

Debster – Check the newest video to see the birds. Though I’m not sure you can see them well enough to identify them.
And yes, the mail came! Thank you so much. I am quite intrigued by those glovey things. Whoever came up with that idea should be a millionaire now. I am looking forward to trying them out. Please send my thanks on to the hubby and the goats (I’m sure they pitched in!).
Have I gotten your new address? I am not sure. Just to be safe, could you email it to me? I don’t guess you happen to have an amazon wishlist do you? That’s how I do my christmas present shopping. But a card I can at least send you.

That baby goat sounds adorable. Can I have that for christmas too??!

Desiree – I hope I am still allowed to complain! Even though I try to stay positive I still like to complain on the internet once in a while. It always solves so much! Haha.
We’ve had plenty of snow. Plenty. Oh boy yes.
I will try to reply to your mail tomorrow. It’s bed time now.
