AfterChristmash

Well, that’s christmas over and done with. Now we’re gearing up for new year’s eve.

Lots of fireworks in the neighbourhood right now. I don’t like fireworks. I like them in the night sky on new year’s eve. Not on week days in the hands of rowdy teenagers. Last week someone lit some fireworks on my doormat outside my door and rang the bell. I could hear the fireworks going off outside before I even had time to consider whether I wanted to open the door or not. And I don’t think they were dangerous fireworks, really. But I still don’t think kids should have access to gunpowder. Especially kids these days.

But it’s not like I can stop the festivities.

Speaking of festivities, I made a little video christmas eve. Here it is: youtube.com/watch?v=XOw5MYtDHjU. Starts off with the trip through the snow to my parents’ place. And some celebrations. Just a little something. I’m sure my family won’t mind me putting that on the internet.

Meanwhile, I’m having a bit of trouble with my leg. It started a couple of weeks ago. I thought I had pulled a hamstring or something. I took a week off from the exercise bike and I thought it cleared up. But then as I started getting back into the biking, the pain came back. In the back of the thigh on my left leg. It got really bad a couple of days ago. It started swelling up and hurting. Felt like there was a massing of blood in there or something. I was close to calling for help, to get a doc to come see me or go to the hospital or something. But I decided to wait and see, and it has gotten better. The swelling has gone down some and it doesn’t hurt as much. When I don’t move it at least. So I’m sure it’ll be fine, but I’ll have to take another break from the exercise bike. Which annoys me, because the biking makes me feel better. Keeps the blood flowing.

I wonder if my blood circulation has gotten better? Last winter I had a really hard time keeping my feet warm at night. Problems sleeping. I had to really power up the heat at night. This winter I haven’t had the same problems. I turn the heat off at night and open the ventilation hatch above the door to get fresh air inside. Without getting cold feet.

But then on the other hand, my feet still get very cold when I go outside during the day. So who knows.

Thank you goes out to Corrie who sent me some delicious christmas treats. That totally makes up for not liking puppies, Corrie!

Y’all stay safe for the new year, y’hear?

What a great clip! Timeless, and yet very timely at the same time.

Perhaps the part sitting around the table was a little too long, granted that you dont intend to bore your audience. Plume is wearing the cap, right? The other guy resembling him, must be a sibling.

Did your Mom get a coffee maker? Santa brought me an electric kettle. It heats up the kettle for several cups of hot cocoa or cider. I took it with me to our holiday book club party.

What were you opening in the video? I couldn’t quite tell. I saw the “Lady and the Tramp” segment on TV.

We had tacos for supper at my parents house with my sister and her husband. We opened presents and had cake and coffee/tea afterwards.

My brother-in-law asked for some white athletic socks for Christmas. I rolled up 5 socks and put them inside the 6th sock to make a long body. I taped on some eyes and a squiggly tongue and put a “Beware” sign on the socks saying: “I’m an athletic anaconda sock snake.” He got a kick out of it. I did the same to my Dad in November for his birthday!

My brother-in-law and Dad are both easy to tease and take it all in fun.

Ann T. Krist – I’m glad you liked it. You should have seen all the stuff I cut out. We’re quite a boring family.
I’m wearing the cap indeed (so rude, not taking it off inside). And the other guy is my brother. And the other guy is my dad.

Debster – My mother got a coffee maker indeed. One with two pots. Or kettles. Or whatever they’re called. I have never drank coffee in my life.
And the present I was unwrapping was in fact a matt for my bathroom floor. Wasn’t something I had wished for, but my dad came up with it because he was annoyed with the fact that I use towels for the bathroom floor. Small ones. I guess a matt is more appropriate. It’s nice and soft.
Tacos for christmas? That sounds.. unconventional. Unless it’s something you do every year. In which cause it would be very conventional. Well, I’m glad we covered that!
The sock snake sounds funny. It’s nice when people get creative with presents like that. Personal touches. I remember having much fun making burning CDs and making artwork and stuff. Unusual stuff instead of just a storebought CD.

I liked it alot. It is so rare you post videos other than boresome animal ones.

  5. Plume Says:

Ann T. Krist – Aw shucks you’re too kind

Not at all! And I did not mean to flatter either. Simply put, the video from your christmas evening had a real magic quality to it, that was enjoysome.

  7. Debster Says:

A bathroom mat probably has rubber or some kind of non-skid backing on it. Unlike a towel which might slide and cause a fall. Good old Dad is just looking out for you!

Boring animal videos??? Not to people who like to watch and listen to goats eat hay. It’s very soothing and repititious. It’s like a zen thing if you think about it. You are there in the present moment focusing all your senses on just being. It is magic.

We are quite unconventional in our Christmas eve supper. We’ve had waffles with strawberries, tacos or enchiladas, ham, turkey, deli sandwiches, chili or vegetable soup, or casseroles. We like to do something different every year.

Thanksgiving with turkey, dressing, vegetables, cranberries, hot rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy, with pumpkin pie is usually always the same each year.

  8. Plume Says:

Ann T. Krist – Well I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Debster – Yup, good thinking by my dad. It’s very nice. Although we had to get a replacement, because the one they bought was too big for my tiny bathroom. But the new one fits nicely.
Yeah, I cannot imagine anyone being bored by goats! I could watch them do nothing all day. Some people just don’t know what’s good for them.
I guess your tradition is to be untraditional. Waffles with strawberries sound pretty darn good.
You’re making me hungry now. I should learn how to cook.
