A Boy And His Goats

I don’t have much energy. Good thing I have vacation, so I don’t need it! Yeah.

I’m still working on the christmas party story, but while we’re busy waiting for that I might share with you my day today. I went to the playground and had a good time. The buck and Tulle was gone. That’s both good and bad. I’ll miss Tulle especially, she was sweet. And I liked the “challenge” of a goat that wasn’t so used to being around lots of people. It was nice to see her get less shy. But on the bright side, now Mads doesn’t have to walk around on his own anymore. He’s back into the pen with Magnethe and Mathilde.

And so am I.

Me and the goats

Ah yes, that’s the stuff. I have missed getting all cuddly with Magnethe.

Nice that there is no longer a fence between us.

I sat down on a bunch of hay at first. Then Per came by and asked if I didn’t want to sit on the bench, because they sort of put it in there just for me. Haha. It has been turned upside down, apparently because the buck liked to roll it over. But I turned it over and Per gave me a blanket and then I had a perfect spot. And Mads jumped up on the bench to be with me of course.

Mads on top of things

I think he was glad to be back with the others again. And he made sure to assert his dominance a few times, just so we all understood that he’s still king of the hill.

All smiles.

There’s nothing like a beautiful winter day in the company of goats.

I had a good talk with Kurt too. About sheeps and goats and christmas and stuff. I admire him. He’s sweet and gentle and funny. He can be authorative with the kids, but they obviously respect and love him. And the animals do too. Some time I have to ask him where he lives, I assume he has some kind of farm because he has all those animals. I’d like to go see it sometime.

He told me that it’s 99,9% sure that the breeding was succesful. So around April/May next year we’ll get goat kids. I can’t wait. Although it’s a strange idea, Magnethe as a mother! She’s just a little girl! Okay, by that time she’ll be more than a year old I guess. But I still can’t hardly believe it. It’s going to be amazing though, to see both Magnethe and Mathilde with kids. I can’t imagine anything making me happier than seeing that. Well, not many things anyway.

And now I will enjoy the fact that I have nothing planned the next two weeks. That’s soothing.

Which means Mathilde will be a grandmother! And maybe a year from now, Magnethe will be a grandmother and Mathilde will be a great-grandmother, and so on. How life travels. You’ve brought us their stories all year and it’s been really great to get to know these lovely animals from afar. I never realized how sweet and charming goats were.

Your card’s in the mail but it likely won’t arrive until after the festive season is passed. Have a merry X-mas, Lasse, and may the Force be with you.

P.S. Home Alone was great fun.
