Peace And Terrorism
I don’t normally write much about politics. Partly because I’m dumb. And partly because other people do it much better. But I thought I would just mention something from the Danish news today.
Greenpeace faces terrorism charges
9-11 didn’t go unnoticed in Denmark of course. And because of our involvement in Iraq we have become a possible target for terrorism. At least that’s what we think ourselves. So we passed some anti-terror laws. Just to be on the safe side. Now, who are the first people we go after with these laws? Al-Queda? ETA? George Bush?
No. Of course the link above gave it away. We are charging Greenpeace. Greenpeace! Now I’m not a huge fan of Greenpeace. I remember getting a rather negative opinion of them some years ago. And I haven’t paid much attention to them since. But as far as I know they haven’t really started killing people, have they?
I don’t think I have to write more. You all get it, right? Misuse of power etc. Read the article for the whole picture.
I think I know why I don’t write much about politics. It’s because it makes me sick.
One of my favourite quotes of all time:
Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely

A charge of terrorism is a bit extreme for merely hanging a sign on a building. And if all the Al Quaeda had done was hang a sign on the twin towers, all would be well in the world and George Bush wouldn’t have had his illegal war. Greenpeace is actually a pretty together organization but it is confrontational i.e. – it has many times put itself between whales and whaling ships. It’s sort of a bit like PETA – but I wouldn’t ever see it as a terrorist organization. Greenpeace started way back in the 70s (in the City I live in!) to fight the nuclear arms movement…they did some amazing work and generally, it’s a well respected organization around the globe. They also forced many countries (Japan, Norway, and Russia) to cut back on whaling and they raised the consciousness of the world about the plight of whales.
