Cheap Laughs

I forgot something yesterday. I met cats. At the playground. Two of them. One was this one, that I met before. She’s called Nina. Bodil told me that. Nina is a regular visitor at the playground it seems. The other cat was a stranger. It was up on the fence, and Nina was on the ground. I petted Nina a little and then I went to pet the other cat, up on the fence. They were meowing at each other and then wham! Nina jumped up, like she was attacking the other cat. And I got scratched. Just a little, though. Nothing serious. Caught in the crossfire, I guess.

I have Antony and the Johnsons on my MP3 player. Albums and live. I am in love with them. I must recommend that you check them out. Especially their first, self-titled, album. It’s full of amazing songs. Cripple And The Starfish. Hitler In My Heart (sounds like a neo-nazi song eh?). Rapture. Amazing songs. The best song is still Hope There’s Someone from their new album, I Am a Bird Now. That song is just out of this world. It’s the most beautiful song I have heard since Blower’s Daughter was fresh in my mind and ears. Just wonderful.

Yesterday our foreign minister Per Stig Møller and our prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen were all over the world. CNN, BBC, Sky News. It is very odd to see. It seems like something out of a movie. Not something real. And people are dying now in this cartoon conflict. It’s hard to believe.

I have called our prime minister slimy, but in all fairness I must say that he seemed to do well yesterday. Didn’t seem so slimy this time. He said something that was very true, that Denmark is used to being friends with other nations. It’s hard to believe all this anger and hatred against us. When I think of how other nations perceive Denmark I usually see two possibilities. 1: What’s a Denmark, the capital of Sweden? Or 2: Aw that’s such a nice little country. Now I have to add 3: Infidels, we will burn your buildings and cut your throats.

In response to Peter, who has taken a little offense to my childish namecalling, I’d like to point out that when I called our prime minister slimy it wasn’t in relation to the cartoon row. I didn’t call him slimy because of his reaction. I called him slimy partly because he looked slimy in his appearance on Arabic TV. And partly because I find him slimy in general. It didn’t have anything to do with his actions in this case. And the Gollum collage was meant mostly for a cheap laugh. I realize that if you like Anders Fogh then you won’t find it funny, but that’s the way it goes. I don’t like him. But I wasn’t seriously saying that he looks like Gollum or Smeagol. That collage was for two reasons, 1: cheap laugh. And 2: to use the ring as a metaphor for political power. Because that’s something I am serious about. I am not happy with Fogh. The war stuff, the Bush groveling, and most importantly handing so much power to Dansk Folkeparti and Pia Kjærsgaard. That was my main point. The “blinded and corrupted by power”. Partnering with DF to get political power, that is probably the main reason for him being slimy. In my opinion. Keeping in mind that I’m not that politically aware, I just make snap judgements from the sound bites on tv.

So to sum up: I think Fogh handled it pretty well yesterday. I don’t think he is to blame for the actions of an independent news paper. But I don’t like him and I don’t like what our current government is doing to our nice, little country.

Oh and thanks for the compliment. I wish I was a hobbit. I’d have better hair and get laid more often.

Alritey then. Let’s all be friends.

To lighten the mood and make fun of an unfunny situation, here is something I saw on the DR’s newspage:

no smoke without fire
(click it to see the full page)

For those of you who don’t speak Danish, the first headline says that students at a Danish school burned the Danish flag. The first time something like this has happened in Denmark. That’s not funny of course. But it’s directly followed by a headline that says that no Danes should be exposed to secondhand smoking. It’s a piece about banning smoking in public places. I just thought it was kinda funny to have a news story about flag burning followed by a story about avoiding second hand smoke. Go figure.

DR is Denmark’s national TV channel. And coincidentally they were at my workplace today. Our chef, Ralford, is going to appear on a show called Rabatten. It’s a show about saving money. And they’re doing a series about cooking a good meal for less than 50 kroners ($8). So they were filming that up in our cafeteria.

You might wonder why I haven’t posted any pictures of lambs in this entry. And to answer your question, here are some pictures of lambs.

three cute lambs

The three new lambs. They are all very cute. But I must say I have fallen for the spotty one.

How lovely it is.

Oh yes, they were outside today. For the first time.

a little lamb and a little snow

There’s almost no snow left, but at least there was a little for them to examine up close.

little lamb

And they were jumping around in that cute, bouncy way that lambs jump. Whirring their heads and popping like popcorn.

sweetie lambie

Some nice sunshine today too.

Spot the cutie.

The playground is much nicer than the real world.
