Kaj Kage

I’m feeling a little off today. But not to worry.

Speaking of the eye doctor, I thought that today I would finally be able to make an appointment. But then I get their answering machine and it tells me that they only take calls from 9-11. Monday to Thursday. It’s like they don’t want me to get an appointment! But I’ll try again on Monday then. Wish me luck.

More luck with the telephone regarding the optician was being had by me. Received I did a call to with there was pertaining my glasses. I speak in riddles and raisins. Anyway. My glasses are ready. That is to say the lenses are ready. So tomorrow I’ll go pick them up. Have them put in my glasses. And I will be able to see properly again. What a wonder it will be. Certainly wonderful I say.

While the neon sun sets, you’ll find me sitting in a tree with my feathered friends chirping the day to bed.

But the piglets, you ask?

piglet

They’re growing. Now they are not content with rummaging through the dirt. They reach for the leaves. With great satisfaction.

Peekaboo. I had the chance to talk to Kurt yesterday. And, as Debster also said in a comment, I seem to have overestimated the time needed to breed goats. When the heat is on. I guess I was fooled by the fact that Vanilje was gone for something like three months. I didn’t think 3-4 days would be enough. But it is. Kurt is expecting Magnethe to be pregnant. And Vanilje probably too. So that is good news. I won’t have to miss them any more. And later on there will be sweet, little kids. Kurt said that Magnethe will be getting three little ones. That was his experience. Magnethe had three kids the last time. And once that has happened then they’ll keep getting triplets. Well, you can’t be absolutely sure of course. But it was very likely. I can’t wait.

It was quite a dramatic story he told, Kurt. Apparently Magnethe didn’t like his place much. She tried to escape. Running straight through fences. Electrical one too. He had to tie her down. And even then she pulled herself free. Only when he got some stronger rope did she settle down. And that’s when “things started happening” with her and the buck. And then some hours later “things stopped happening”. And I guess that’s all the time that was needed.

I do remember when he first talked about getting Magnethe and the buck together, the reason that he initially planned to bring the buck to the playground was that he didn’t think he could handle Magnethe. That puzzled me because even though she’s big and strong and has been showing some temper lately I still thought she’d be easy enough to handle. But I guess she objects to being taken away from the playground. Probably because she doesn’t want to leave ME, yes ME. That must be it. I am, after all, the center of the universe. I am glad to have her back, that’s for sure.

That means I won’t get to see the buck again, though. Remember him? With his beautiful, giant ears. That’s too bad. Maybe I should go to Kurt’s place some time. I’d like that actually. When he took Magnethe away I said I would miss her and he said “yes of course you will. If it gets too much then you’ll just have to jump on your bike and ride out to my place and visit her”. Maybe I will ride out and visit the buck. And all the other animals he has. Lots of sheep, I know.

No new foal. Kurt seemed to think that Sille was probably not pregnant after all. Too bad, he said. Indeed. I would love to meet a sweet, newborn foal. I said that I had never met a horse baby before. Not entirely true. http://plume.dk/pics/displayimage.php?pos=-997. Sille’s last baby. That was before I really got to be a part of the playground, though. So I never got to say hello to that one. Only from afar.

Speaking of ice cream, do you know what kind of ice I like? The naturally formed ice that I get in our fridge. See, the back wall of the middle section of our fridge is too cold. So if I put a bottle of water up against the back there then ice slowly forms in the bottle. I guess the water you put in the freezer freezes naturally too. But the stuff that slowly forms in the fridge is crystal clear and just feels so fresh and lovely. When you make icecubes in the freezer then they are clouded and harsh. Much better in the fridge. Although I guess it’s a sign that our fridge is too cold.

My jaw is hurting. As the nun said to sailor. This time it’s the right side. It’s very annoying. I can’t open my mouth much without the hurt and the pain and the yowling. Good thing I don’t speak much, eh? Sometimes there are benefits to keeping your mouth shut.

But don’t tell anyone I said that.

Poor Magnethe. Doesn’t sound like she had too good of a time at her boyfriends place. I’ll bet she did miss you, Plume.

Be sure and take lots of photos if you do decide to visit Kurt’s farm. That sounds like fun and I’m sure he’d be pleased if you did visit.

Talking about the piglets eating leaves . . . Frankie tried to climb the apple tree tonight to get to some leaves. Silly goat. He did get up part way in some lower branches. Then Billy stood up on tippy toes to get branches that were too high for Frankie to reach. I don’t think I’m up to rescuing a goat out of a tree although we do have ladders!

Hay, hay Luis Lemmings! Any wild fires in your area? Have been seeing them on the news in LA. Georgia and Florida seem to have their share of wild fires, too. It’s been wet here and has hampered some of the farmers in planting corn and soybeans. No major flooding in our area luckily.

Debster – If and when I go to Kurt’s place I’ll make sure to take lots of pictures. I’m sure he won’t mind being a tourist attraction for a bit!
Are you sure Frankie wanted the leaves? Maybe he was going for the apples! Ambitious little fella. I wonder if many goats get stuck in trees or is that just cats?
I hope Luis Lemmings is okay. Nature is a fickle mistress. I’m glad we don’t get too much extreme weather in Denmark. Only a little snowstorm every now and then.
