Sorny

How about that. It snowed today. March is supposed to be springtime, according to the Danish calendar. But a little snow is always welcome. And it was only a little. Twas funny, I was getting ready to go out and do a little shopping and I wondered to myself I wondered: “should I put on a sweater or not? It’s probably not that cold outside”. But I decided to put on the sweater and as I walked down the stairs I saw the snow falling. But by the time I had done my shopping and exitted the mall around the corner, the sun was shining and there was barely any snow left on the ground.

I must admit I’m looking forward to summer. And I always used to consider myself a winter person. But the thought of sitting in the green grass with the goats, that’s a joyful thought.

It’s been a pretty poor winter, snow-wise. There’s barely been any. I think there was one night with snow. Since I have moved here I haven’t had the chance to see the neighbourhood completely covered in snow. I guess I’ll have to wait till next winter. Unless March gets really freaky.

Other than that I have spent some time playing with my shiny new toy. The DVD recorder. I’m very pleased with it. Everything has worked out as I hoped. I managed to hook up my VCR to the recorder. At first there was no sound and I thought I might be missing a cable or something. But I checked the manual and didn’t see anything about sound cable. So I fidgetted a bit with the SCART cable and that worked it out. I was able to transfer from VHS tape to DVD recorder. And from DVD recorder to DVD+RW. And from DVD+RW to computer. Schweet. I got lots of old junk on VHS tapes that I want to transfer. I’m sure you guys will get to see some of it along the way.

And it came in handy today, the DVD recorder. I was watching a show called “Ha Det Godt” which means something like “Feel Good” or “Be Well” or something about that. A program about bettering your life. There was a segment about vegetarianism. And guess who was featured? None other than Gitte Storm, chef at Gyngen. Where I used to work, before I started at TMU and eventually retired. That was fun, seeing her. Not like we were close friends or anything. But on friendly terms at least. I had my daily routine of going upstairs as soon as the kitchen opened to get myself a glass of lemonade or cola. So they knew me from that. And on my last day there, when I went around and said goodbye to some of the people, she told me I should come by for a glass of cola some day. But anyway, just two clicks on the remote and I was recording the segment and now have it on my computer for evermore. So much, so so much easier than the old VHS days.

My only regret is that the recorder is a sony. An RDR-HXD 870 in case you wondered. I had made the decision to buy a DVD recorder last week. And started doing some research. On Sunday I looked at an online test. Which was won by the Sony. And then I thought to myself I thought: “Where have I seen that before?”. And I digged out the stack of commercials that I had gotten this week. And there it was, on sale in Bilka. Not exactly cheap but within my desired price range and cheaper than what it normally sells for. So I took that as a sign. Test winner and on sale. So on Monday I went and bought it. And as I’ve said, I’m quite happy with it so far. So I’ll just try to forget that I really, really, really dislike Sony. And that’s an understatement. I honestly think they’re evil. And that’s not a joke, some of the things they have done are just outrageous. I mean, you only have to look at this. Seriously. Fuck you Sony. Pardon my language. Too bad my principles aren’t strong enough to resist the temptation of the material goods. We should boycot Sony. From now on, no more Sony. This I swear.

We’ve had around 36 – 40 inches of snow around here since Nov. 2007 till now. It will snow a few inches, then melt, then freezing rain/snow and blizzrd, then melt, and start the process all over again. The most we’ve had a any one time would be 3 or 4 inches.

It’s mostly snow-free right now, but wait . . . we are expecting snow showers later tonight or tomorrow.

Last Sunday was great. The temp was around 73F (22.7C), but in the evening it was down to 28F (-2.2C). So we have really nice weather for part of a day, then really cold in the evening.

Frankie is starting to lose his winter coat. When I comb him, I get enough hair to “fur” another goat! There will be plenty of goat hair for the birds to make their cozy little nests out of this year.

You may have to have a little talk with Magnethe and tell her it’s time to have those kids! We want to see goat babies this week.

Debster – Aw. Bird nests made of goat hairs. That’s a lovely thought. Goats are useful for so many things!
I don’t think it will be a problem to get Magnethe to agree that it’s about time to have the kids! I think she’s good and ready for it. If just nature would comply and stop being so difficult!
