Heavy Rain

So today should have been the day for the final eye surgery.

But of course it was not. Still postponed.

And in other bad news, my Aukey purchase has fallen through. No portable video magnification reader for me. Not yet, anyway. I’m going to try to get one for free through the Danish handicap services, although it won’t be an Aukey. Too bad, it looked really neat. I hope I can get one like that. We’ll see. I’m going to try calling the sight central tomorrow.

Since my schedule was wide open for today I decided to go see the goats. Hadn’t seen them all week, so I really felt that I had to go. Despite the fact that it was raining. I’m a lot like goats in many ways, but luckily I don’t hate the rain as much as they do.

The goats were inside, of course. They were in what I used to refer to as the goat house. But I guess it’s not the goat house anymore. There is still a compartment with chickens and bunnies. But where the goats and sheep used to be there is no more hay. Now it seems to be functioning as a garage for the big, yellow vehicle thing. Have I ever shown that? I don’t know. I’m not sure exactly what it does. I don’t think I have ever actually seen it driving around anywhere. But I remember when I was working as weekend feeder I used to have to crawl around it because it was parked in the fodderbox place.

Anyway, here’s a video so you can see it: youtube.com/watch?v=KjjK3w6UZMA. Hans loved climbing around on it.

I wanted to see if I could get the goats out a little, so I picked up Hans and carried him to the sitting place under the half-roof outside. The others didn’t want to follow us out in the rain, though. I went back to get Grethe, but Hans just followed me back. You can never get goats to go where you want them, I have noticed. On several occasions. A little later on I picked up Grethe and carried her out under the half-roof. And Hans followed. So we were sitting out there, but Magnethe was still in the ex-goat house. Baahing for her babies, while they were baahing back. You can see that in the video as well. Just when I was about to give up and get the kids back inside with mama, she decided to come out. Through the rain, she joined us under the half-roof. But I guess it didn’t give enough cover for the rain. She quickly moved on. She ended up at the fodderboxes, of course. I tried to get them all out of there, but have you ever tried getting goats away from food? And then tried doing it while it’s raining outside? Getting goats away from food and into rain, that is not easy. Eventually Per showed up and helped me. He dragged Magnethe off while I carried Hans, and Grethe came running after. So in the end, we all ended up back in the ex-goat house and I had to settle for staying in there. Which wasn’t so bad, to be fair. I don’t mind the rain, but it is more fun when the sun is out and the goats can walk around and there are visitors and all that. Still, as long as the goats are there then it is a good time.

Now… back to waiting.

bah, sorry to hear that! Still, one week goes by really fast-hang in there!

  2. Plume Says:

Katrine – Yeah, and surely no more postponements possibly.. fingers crossed.

Was that the “crazy chicken guy” clucking at the beginning of your video? hee, hee

Hans really likes the yellow machine. Is that a riding lawn mower? I like how Hans’ little toes spread so he can keep his balance.

The goats and donkey girl are now at the new place! My husband transported them in a borrowed animal trailer. I had to go on a paint run, so I wasn’t in on the move.

They were sure happy to see us when we got home. Lots of baaaaing and hee-hawing going on. They know things are different, but we’re around so some things are the same.

It is so good to have them close by. We spent lots of time in the pen tonight combing everyone and giving scratches. They would go eat hay, then come back for reassurance that everything was alright.

We have 8 days of rain in the forecast out of the next 10 days. It’s very wet and soggy everywhere. We need some dry weather for the crops and for the animals (and us, if we are ever going to get to do outside painting this year).

Well, you can’t say too much about a “free reader” now, can you? Hope it works out for you.

Grrrr to the post-postponement of your eye surgery!

And grrr to the reader not coming after all. What happened?

I’m now driving the Toyota quite confidently, but have also been the victim of some very impatient other drivers out there. I mean, give me a bloomin’ chance, eh! It’s not like I stall on purpose or to delay anyone’s obviously incredibly important journeys! But one thing is 100% certian – beeping your horn at me is NOT going to make me suddenly able to drive with more confidence and get out of your way! Grrrr to impatient drivers!

The porche sounds good. ;) I’d look fine in one of them! Though possibly even more pathetic as the car stalls. ;)

I’m hunting around fro something a little more practical, though. Like a station car of kind. Perhaps another Toyota. They’re reliable.

I’m going to a BBQ tomorrow. Wish the rain would stop! ! !

They’ve closed the goat pen at Jesperhus, by the way. No more petting goats. :( I hope all the little goats have gone somewhere nice and less stressful, though. Can’t imagine a pen in a theme park like that is a very nice place for a goat to grow up.

Loads of hugs and hope you have an enjoyable weekend. x

Debster – Haha! No, I think those were real chickens. But you never know, I wouldn’t be surprised to find him sitting in there some day.
I have been wondering myself, if it’s a mown lawer. I mean, a lawn mover. Mower. Whatever. I’m not sure though, but it’s certainly possible. I can’t think of what else it would really be good for. Other than perhaps a goat agility course.
Hans would climb up there, then slowly make his way out to the edge, further and further, until he could almost touch me… and then he’d fall/jump down, sometimes crashing right into me. And then he’d get up and jump right back on that thing. And then go back to the edge and.. so on and so on. Silly goat boy.

I hope the travel was safe for the goats and donkey. It must have seemed like a big adventure to them. It sounds like you take such great care of them, that makes me happy. Here’s to a long and happy life at the new place *toast*. Mmm, I do like toast, with some nice grilled cheese and..

Desiree – Well the surgery was postponed because the anesthesiologists were too busy and they ran out of cartoon mallets. The reader thing fell through because the seller decided it was too complicated to ship to Denmark after all. I had been asking him things about American/Danish power supplies. Maybe he got tired of me. Nah, he seemed like a nice guy. Anyway, today I put in an order for another one, this time from a Danish place. It won’t be the Aukey one, but hopefully the one I’m getting is still good. Decided to pay for it myself and all. Should be getting it within a week’s time. So let’s hope it’ll work well for me.

Toyotas are reliable eh? That’s funny, I keep hearing jokes about their brakes not working. But I imagine yours do work, otherwise you would probably have found out by now… Hope the driving will be safe. Don’t let anyone rush you. All that road rage is a nasty thing. I remember, a long time ago, whne I worked down in Mejlgade at Kulturgyngen, the first day I tried biking down there I was held up by a mad motorcyclist who practically threatened me with physical violence because I had apparently done something wrong. That wasn’t fun.
Maybe I’ll make a theme park for goats some day. And then they can come and pet humans. That would be something.
