The Usual Suspects
Guess what I saw today?
I saw a great, big goat yawn. And a beautiful one it was. Magnethe let one rip. I love goat yawns. They are so funny and sweet. But I see them very rarely. It’s been years since I saw a really good one last. Not since all the eyesight business started at least. Of course that could be partially explained by the fact that I don’t go see the goats as often as I used to and that my eyesight has been so bad for periods that I could easily have missed some. But even before the sight troubles I stil rarely caught one. I can probably count the ones I’ve seen on two hands. I mean the really big, open wide llama looking ones. Today I got a really wonderful one.
It wasn’t all wonderful at the playground, though. Grethe was not feeling well. She’s been sick. When I got there she was lying down. And she didn’t even get up when she saw me. That’s how you know a goat isn’t feeling well. If they don’t come running to say hello then something is wrong. When the guy who was feeding them brought in a bucket of food she did get up and sniffed at it. But she didn’t eat anything. So Magnethe got all the food for herself. And did not object to that. A little later I went outside, and Grethe did follow me out. And she did nibble a little at some old bread I had brought. And she did walk around a little. So I think she’s getting better. I was told the vet would come check on her later. So I’m sure it’ll be okay. Hopefully she’ll be back to full strength again soon.
Nice goats. And I met nice humans on the trip too. Like the bus driver who welcomed me with a “come inside where it’s warm”. And the old lady on the trip home who came over and asked if I didn’t want a seat. And the other old lady who asked me if I needed help getting up the stairs. Nice and helpful people. I almost feel bad for walking around with the filter glasses and the cane. Because my eyesight has improved enough now that I really don’t need help. But I do still need to signal that I am sight handicapped, and the cane is really good for that. I still half expect someone to come up and say “HEY YOU’RE NOT BLIND AT ALL”. But then I’m always afraid of getting accused of stuff, even when I haven’t done anything. I was the kind of kid who’d turn beet red if the teacher was asking the class who drew the penis on the chalkboard. Even if I had nothing to do with it. I’d do really poorly in a police lineup. “Well, I don’t recognise him but number 3 LOOKS really guilty, officer”.
I didn’t do it.

Goat yawns are special. Come to think about it, I haven’t seen our boys yawn lately either.
Of course, we never saw John Boy or Billy sleep for the longest time. Not till Frankie came to live with us. Frankie got tired one day, and promptly fell asleep on one of the wooden spools.
Frankie can fall asleep standing in the sun. He must be the human equivalent of people who can nap anywhere or anytime.

This song really seems to say what the “real” America is like – not the TV shows with their pretend lives. The pickup truck, the rural scenes, the house, the people in the video are similar to where we live. Thought you might like to see it.

Debster – unfortunately that video is blocked for me.. oopyright fascism.. boo.
If you tell me the band/song maybe I can find a working version myself.
Sleepy goats are so sweet. I still have very fond memories of Mads dozing off with his head in my lap. So sweet indeed.
I’m still a little jealous that you have goats literally in your back yard. And a devil donkey! You are lucky.

The video is on youtube. It’s by James Wesley and it’s called “Real”.

Debster – I couldn’t find any working videos of it. Only thing I could find were live performances and lyric videos. Poop!

There are lots of positive comments from people who watched the video that say Americans are small town, hard-working people with values, who farm and fish and love their children and grandparents. We also have great respect for our military men and women as they are our friends, neighbors, and relatives who are in the service.
I think this video shows more of what Americans are really like instead of some of the silly shows on TV.

Debster – That’s a very nice video yes. Very down to earth and Americany in a good way. I like the anti reality-show sentiment. Some of those reality shows are just.. grarg. Pretty far from reality yes.
All it needed was some goats.
I think goats should have a reality show. The real housegoats of Iowa. Yup.

Hooray! You found it. I figured after so much trouble, you’d think I was making too much out of it.
There’s a commercial out now about Capitol One “What’s in Your Wallet?” that has the Vikings in New Orleans celebrating. The goat is at the beginning and the very end of the commercial. She moves her mouth and sings along with the music.
It’s on youtube, but all the views I’ve seen don’t have the ending part of the commercial which is the best part. There are comments on the video clip asking the person to update it with the ending this time.
There is also one with the Vikings in Las Vegas with Capitol One. The Viking is getting married in a hokey little wedding chapel and when the minister asks if there are any objections to the marriage, the goat speaks up and baaaaa’s!
Both are funny and I’ll have to keep checking youtube to see if they get the whole commercial on for both of them.

Debster – haha, no it was very nice! I should make a Danish video with down_to-earth Danish folks. Maybe next year.
There should be more goats in commercials. Who wouldn’t buy products from goats? They could sell anything. At least to goat crazy people like us!
