Long Nap

The summer is still here with lovely sun and warmth. It’s been a pretty good week. Another good one. I am moving forwards, not looking back too much.

The playground has been closed all week due to vacation. But the goats have been out quite a bit so I have spent good times with them in the sunshine. Appreciating what I have.

The main event, though, was on Wednesday. When the vet paid a visit to fix Palle. So to speak. He is now properly castrated. It went mostly fine, although I suspect she gave him a little too much anesthesia. He was supposed to be out for about an hour but I think it was closer to three. I did worry, a lot. But all is well that ends well. It was a big relief to see him finally get up and go straight to mama for a long drink. It was a long nap he took!

I helped hold him when he got the anesthesia injection. That wasn’t fun. He squealed and it was hard not to feel bad for him. But then he soon toppled over and was at rest. Meanwhile Mia was outside hollering. Quite upset that we had taken her baby away. It was funny how calm Palle was inside. Before the anesthesia I mean. He didn’t seem bothered at all that he had been taken away from his mother. He’s a very independent little guy. Once they were about to get started on the procedure I went back outside in the pen and sat with Mia. Tried to comfort and keep her calm. Distracted her with raisins. That always helps a little. Now it’s done and hopefully Palle is ready for a long and happy future at the playground. We all love him a lot. He is super friendly and happy. I remember how worried we were about him when he was born because he was so small and Mia had him so young. But he has grown nicely and is strong and independent now. I’m sure his beautiful, black fur will always remind me of Bob.

Meanwhile, on the home front. Been hard at work. Yesterday I did four hours on the exercise bike. I am rather pleased with myself. I’m not sure I’ll be going that long again any time soon. But I just wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. I’ve been doing regular three hour sessions which is quite nice. And when it’s this hot then it feels very effective. At least I am working for it.

Now on with a bunch of goat pictures.

Lil sis Large.

Lil bro Medium.

Medium looking more and more like daddy Preben. Once he gets the impressive horns and beard he’ll be there.

Pretty Mia.

I posted a little video clip on Facebook of the goats dancing on their hind legs to reach leaves on the trees and I said that sometimes I think the goats wish they were giraffes. In this picture it looks like Mia is working on it!

Sweet Palle.

Pretty boy!

I was taking good care of him before his big ordeal!

Mia keeping an eye on Palle when it was all done.

They are really sweet together.

Mio in the green world.

Mio in the background with her kids relaxing on the platform.

And a goatlog from the vacation week.

Fun stuff here and there and then of course Palle’s big adventure.

Next week should be gloriously hot and sunny. Fingers crossed for good goat times and hard exercise.

Glad to hear Palle’s operation went well. I remember when we had our boys banded. They used a rubber band like thing and after a few weeks, they just dropped off. The band restricted circulation so they didn’t have to have anesthetic or stitches or anything like that.

I don’t know that I could sit on a bicycle for that long let alone pedal it, too! Quite impressive, Lasse.

Yeah I remember they did it like that for one of our boys some years ago. I think Palle is too old for that though, at least that’s what they said. I’m not an expert on these things, of course. But it’s all good now anyway.
Four hours is rough! My butt is still sore…
