Hay Today Gone Tomorrow

It’s beginning to look a lot like almost christmas. Just a few days now. I don’t have any big plans. Just the usual. It doesn’t look like we’ll be having a white christmas this year. In fact it’s been a very mild winter. Not that that’s going to stop me complaining about the cold. “It’s summerwarm” my father says. Not to me, it isn’t!

Had my half yearly checkup at the eye doc on Monday. Business as usual. It looks peaceful and stable, he said. So that’s good. He said he was impressed by how good it looked, all things considered. He’d done the kind of operations that I have had himself in the past, and he knew how complicated they could be. Things could have ended up a lot worse. I appreciate what I have.

At the playground there was a hay shortage this week. We ran out. The goats were not pleased. We let them out and they proceeded to ransack the horse stable, the bunny house. the bunny enclosure, the chicken coop and the hay wagon (with only bales of straw) looking for leftovers. Eventually they moved out to the little lawn at the side of the playground. And discovered there was still grass! Not superfresh, yummy green summergrass. But good enough to eat. So I walked around with them and watched them graze. Eventually rain was replaced by sunshine, and if it wasn’t for the temperature it could almost have been a summer day. I love watching and listening to the groats grazing.

Now go go goat photos.

I don’t think Palle is coming out until someone cleans the mud.

This guy spooked Clark when it landed close to him. But the he shrugged it off and kept grazing.

Mmm. Grass.

Busted!

Will the rain ever stop?

Photobombed by a goat ear.

And a couple of goatlogs. The first one with the great search for food. The second one with The Bruce And Clark Ultimate Goating Championship.

And that’s all for this week folks. Christmas in the next one.

Oh, the horror! NO HAY! Just how can that happen? You might run out of milk for your cereal, but hay?

I hope the situation was quickly solved by the delivery of a huge semi load of delicious hay. What is the world coming to!

That bird is a Hooded Crow – Grakrage. Our crows are all black, no white or gray on them. Do they make a harsh “caw, caw” sound?

I could also hear the budgies chirping in the background. I love to listen to budgies. Do any of them talk? They usually talk extremely fast and repeat words. So you have to listen very carefully to them.

Yes, quite a disaster! There was some delay so the hay couldn’t be delivered for a couple of days. But somehow we all survived, thankfully!
The crows do make their crow sounds. I will often hear them when I’m sitting on the bench in the goat pen. Sometimes I’ll spot them flying from tree to tree. And sometimes they swoop down and sit on the fence. And on rare occasions they even land in the pen. Causing much concern from the goats, because what kind of winged beast is that?!
Our birds do chirp a lovely sound. But I don’t think they talk. Bodil is trying to teach them to whistle particular refrains, but I’m not sure they’ve picked up on ny of it. Yet.
Also, I got the card! Thank you so much! Please thank Sam and the goats and the donkey from me too, as well as anyone else involved! That was a lovely note too. I am impressed that you saw trumpeter swans. I haven’t seen swans in many, many years. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen any play the trumpet! Teehee!
Hope your brother-in-law is doing well, and that you all will have a merry christmastime and beyond! Btw, if there were any cookies or cocoa, or even carols, left over please send them my way! Hope you’ll be raising a great library!

Lasse, you’ll never guess what we found in our mailbox this Tuesday evening after work!

A goat! And what a lovely goat it is, too. That is so cute. I will have to make a cut-out cookie dough recipe and put Mr. Goat to work making little replicas of himself.

I send my book club members a monthly email reminder about our next meeting, book, etc., and I usually attach a photo of one of the goatzie boys or of Snickers with some pithy remark.

I will have to make some “goat cookies” for the book club members as they know how crazy I am about goats. Wait till they hear who sent it to me – a crazy goat person from another country! Hee, hee. They won’t believe there are “two” crazy goat people in the world.

Thanks again for thinking of us. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas on Christmas Eve to you and your family!
