Oh Babies

Beautiful summer’s day. The goating was good.
The news with Milo unfortunately not good. Jeanette was back from vacation and working to find a solution. Butnothing panned out so far. She’d found an ad from someone looking for a goat companion since they’d lost one of their two, but turns out they only wanted a girl. You coulda said that in the ad…
Then there was a sanctuary that I had high hopes for. It was actually suggested to me by Sigrid. If you have followed me for a long long time you may remember her. She worked at the old old playground. The first one. She’s a great person. And the sanctuary seemed like a great place. Kind of like an Esther the Wonderpig situation ish. With rescues and stuff. But when Jeanette got a hold of them she found out that they are not currently taking new animals. Something about htem having been ordered to build a new building or something, something that was costing a lot of money. So they couldn’t take any new animals right now. Fiddlesticks. It looked so good. Far away, but good. And they even have a goat like Milo already, a sweetheart who is pretty demanding in attention. And his name is Mads. Mads was the name of my first really close goat friend back in the early aughts. I would have loved to see Milo and Mads living happily together there. The sanctuary has a facebook page too so I might even have been able to see him still. Alas.
None of the options we were hoping for have worked out. And we are left with not much more than a week to find a solution. So my optimism has mostly disappeared and I am back to thinking it may be the worst possible outcome for Milo. Fck. But we are still trying. The woman from the sanctuary that Jeanette talked to asked us to do a little write-up with pictures of Milo. Apparently she has a big networkd in this field. So I’m going to be doing that tonight hopefully. And I think Jeanette wanted to post it another place too to see if we could find someone. I also think I will make a post on the Danish reddit sub to ask if anyone knows anyone who could use a good goat buddy. It’s not hopeless but it’s not looking good.
To top it off today the stores are closed in Denmark, unbeknownst to me. It’s Constitution Day here. I had googled to see if it was a holiday, and google said it wasn’t an official holiday so I assumed the stores weren’t closed. So that was a wasted trip to the supermarket. I was planning to make soup today, but I don’t have any vegetables now so that will have to be another day. Sigh.
I did have good goat times today, I will write a more positive update later. But right now, more B & M.

It was a beautiful summer’s day, hot and sunny with goats. Some running and snakeing on the mountain, lots of relaxing in the sun. A cute little visitor too. A family with a little girl. Jeanette took the girl into the pen and she got some upclose time with the goats and hens, and did her best to avoid the ‘kaka’. Milo did unfortunately take a swing at her, which shows that even with me and Jeanette and just one kid, it’s still not really the best. And I know some will say to keep the kids out of the goat pen, but that’s not the concept of these playgrounds. Part of the idea is for kids to be in with the animals, get to be close to them and in some cases help take care of them. Learn to respect and love them.
She was sweet though and didn’t seem scared after Milo did his thing. In fact when she had to leave she did not want to go and ran off. Her father had to come into the pen and catch her and carry her out. She cried as she was taken away becaus she didn’t want to go. She was a doll.
And we didn’t just have someone escaping into the pen, we also had an escapee out of the pen. Sky took a little trip to the outside world. It happened because Jeanette had to talk to a supervisor and the goats were without water buckets for a bit. And it was so hot and I saw Sky looking where the water buckets usually are. So I decided to go get a bucket of water for her. And I didn’t close the gate properly when I got back. So Sky slipped out. I had to try to keep the gate open and get her back in while keeping Milo from following her out. It was like a juggling act. It took a minute but she did come back. I think it got them a little worked up, they were bleating their loudest bleats for quite a while several times after that. The ones normally reserved for when I leave them. Jeanette actually came over to see if I had left because they were being so loud.
A lovely summer day, I just wish it had come with better news for Milo.

Guess what I did today?
I played with baby goats.
For the first time since.. well, December 2017, when Milo and Sky came to us.
Today was the day when Jeanette went to pick out the two baby goats that will come to stay with us in a couple of weeks. And she wanted me to come with her. Which made me happy because I got to see baby goats and it makes me feel like she values my help and partaking in the goatventure. I’m happy to help.
Jeanette drove us there, and we got there despite some wonky gps instructions. Only about 20ish minutes drive. Still, challenging for my social phobia to try and have somewhat human conversation. I think I did okay, although I can tell it’s still a lot eaasier for me to socialise with goats than humans.
But we got there. And it was a really nice place. Seemed very idyllic, the bright sunshine did not hurt. Honestly, it seemed like a better place, at least for animals, than our place… hate to say. But it’s probably just all the negativity lately. Our goats have more space with green in it and the mountain, so there’s that.
We met a very nice lady who took us in to see the goats. I think it’s a playground and club situation like the three I have been part of with goats. The lady told us that they had had a buck castrated, but they had done it like a week or two too late… so he managed to have some fun in the nick of she snip. So they had two male and four female baby goats and not enough space.
The babies were all adorable, as you’d imagine. All their goats were really calm and sweet. When we got there a mother and a young boy was in with the goats and the boy was very happy and excited. This is how the playgrounds are supposed to work. Kids being able to be in with the goats.
The four little girl goats were fairly similar, one of them was smaller than the others and I think we have decided on taking her. But i think the finaly selection will be made on the day we go get them. There wasn’t too much to differentiate the four right now. But it was good to see them. And I have a cute thing to tell you about, but I’ll talk about that later with a picture.
Sigh. They were just so wonderful. There’s nothing better than baby goats. Stinking cute. I wish we could have them all right now. And I wish we did not need to have any of them at all..
But here we are. It was a nice trip with Jeanette. And I promised I’d help with the transport, since that might be a tricky. Oh and Jeanette said I could name one of them. So I’ll have to think about that.
On our way home I asked Jeanette if she could drop me off at the shopping center so I could go do my shopping. That led us to talking about the supermarket closing. And she told me that there was a store that opened recently in our neighbourhood. It’s not the same chain as the supermarket, but it might work as a replacement. Jeanette even drove us past it so she could show me where it was, how thoughtful is that! And it’s only a tiny detour on the walk between the playground and my apartment. It will still be an adjustment, the walk with groceries will be longer which may be a problem with my Pepsi Max addiction. I will still look at what is available for deliveries. But it’s good to know it’s there.
Now it’s time for a power nap and some soup.

I promised you something cute. Well get a load of this guy. He charmed the socks off Jeanette and I. He was so cute and loving. A little bit bigger than the girls, maybe he’s a little bit older. But oh he was lovely. I love his colours. AND HE HAS WATTLES. Geez, I had to stop myself from begging Jeanette CAN WE KEEP HIM CAN WE KEEP HIM. Unfortunately even though he was super sweet and cuddly and awesome we have to take two girls, we just can’t risk anything. If you speak Danish you’ll hear me in the video saying “Well i’ll just have to take this guy whome with me then”. And Jeanette said “Yes, along with Milo. You’ll have to go live in the country”. I wish I could, man.
This boy was just so sweet. The other babies were cute and sweet and liked being cuddles. But this guy just climbed right up on my lap and demanded cuddles, he was nibbling on my blind-badge and my face and he was jumping up to get cuddles with Jeanette too. And his butt was white, like he’d sat down in a bucket of paint. And did I mention the wattles? Ugh. So darling. One of the little girls is in the video too, very adorable too. But oy this guy stole my heart. I sure hope they find a good home for him. They were also talking about how hard it is to find new homes for them. Apparently in the local buy/sell paper there are like a hundred goats for sale, no one wanting to buy. Which is not encouraging.
Life ain’t fair. Why can’t I have ALL the goats? Why can’t I just have my own island and live among the goats and just get soup and pizza drop shipped in by parachute every now and then.

Here’s a little collage with that lovely kid from yesterday. I’m not going to go on and on about him, since he won’t be coming to stay with us. But boy I’m smitten. He’s so beautiful and cuddly and sweet. I wish I really could take him and Milo to live with me. What a batchelor pad that would be. Or a sitcom. Two Goats, A Guy And A Pizza Place.

For the premium subscribers, here’s some behind the scenes footage from Monday. When Sky escaped the goat pen while I was fetching water. What you can’t really see is me running interference to prevent Milo from getting out of the gate while I was trying to get Sky to come back in. but all is well that ends well, and Sky hydrated.

Good times with the littles today. Summer has struck Denmark. There’s a drought warning and every day is above 20C/68F. Hot stuff for Denmark. Perfect to sit and relax with goats. I always loved that deep blue sky above and the tasty fresh green below. It is hard not to think of the big white blob I used to have to completely rainbow. I miss my Mia.
We had visiting kids today. Several asked where the big goat was. Sigh. But they got to pet Milo over the fence which went well. And the Jeanette took them into the pen in groups of two. And I kept Milo mostly preoccupied so everyone had a good time and the kids got to cuddle the kids.
Fraidycat Milo got some scars today. First Jeanette was going to sweep some berries away. When she took the broom out Milo ran away from her. Don’t worry silly, she’s not going to broom you away! And then later both Milo and Sky came shooting out of the goat house like a… thing.. that.. shouts out of ..some..other thing. Bats out of hell? I dont know. But it was one of the feathery fowls that squawked an egglaying signal. Milo and Sky don’t mind the occasional squawks but when it’s that prolonged continued squawking then it disturbs them.
And then later we were out in th greens and there was something beyond the trees, I think it was just a bird. But it sent Milo on a little jog away too. Yeah, it’s a dangerous life in the goat pen.

Sky has a couple of new favourite places to sit. The vast majority of the time the two will sit down together. Usually either at the foot of the mountain (after kicking up a few tons of dirt) or in the entryway of the goat house. But recently Sky has sometimes climbed up on the mountain to sit up there and enjoy the view. Milo doesn’t go up to sit up there.
And the lower picture is Sky sitting at the gate of the goat pen. I imagine she sits there because of the shade. Or maybe it’s just that she’s hoping for more chances to sneak out the gate and make a break for it.

In today’s edition of B & M, Lasse bitches and moans about how it is now too hot. Lasse is a fickle frumptydumpty, there’s only about 10 days a year where he’s comfortable. The rest of the time it’s either too cold or too hot or too rainy or not enough snowy or too windy. It’s like the fairy tale of little goldilocks and the three bad bears and the wolf and the pig with the hut of straw and this porridge is too cold and this porridge is too hot and then Gordon Ramsay yells at the chef because how hard can it be to make a frigging bowl of porridge at the right temperature?!
And what’s next, will they make goldilocks a brunette?! At least we can still call it Le Mans, I was afraid the woke left would have us call it Le WOMANS am I right? Who’s with me. Anyway, I’m just going to go admit to some felonies while I’m being recorded, when you’re a Facebook star they let you do that.
Anyway, don’t make me come over there.
