Plume’s Guide To The Galaxy

Alrite, alrite, alrite, alrite. The soccer season is on its way. And Brøndby won their first game. Brøndby-Randers 2-1. In the cup quarter final. So we’re on to the semi-finals. Very, very important victory. And my mood is all the better for it.

Also had nice dinner with parents. And generally just chilling. Had some more headache and tiredness this morning, but I managed to get up luckily. By the way, did I say that the ham I cooked turned out okay? Let me rephrase that. It turned out awesome. The leftovers are almost gone now, but I have enjoyed having them to pick at in the fridge. Good stuff.

Now I’m going to go to bed and read a good book. Currently I am reading Stephen King’s Lisey’s Story. A romance by Stephen King, whodathunk? I’m liking it very much. Especially the Boo’ya Moon stuff. It feels familiar. From dreams.

Scott was in the kitchen frying bacon in his underpants

Whoah, them’s some special underpants! I wish I could fry bacon in MY underpants. I could get rid of the pots and pans altogether.

I oughta be finishing the book tonight. Which is handy because I got an email from the library saying that they’ve got Slaughterhouse 5 waiting for me. So I’ll go pick it up tomorrow and get started on that.

It’s nice to be reading more again. That was one of my wishes/resolutions from last year. Moving out on my own. Getting something out of the TMU stay. And reading more. I managed all that. My reading list. It doesn’t cover all of 2007, but you can still see that change from the period when I pretty much stopped reading “for fun”. The Moomins on top.

If you look at the bottom of the list you’ll see that I have been reading quite a bit of Dennis Jurgensen lately. You don’t know him unless you’re Danish, I’m fairly sure. But I’ve been on a nostalgia trip of his books. Back when I was a kid he was sort of like J.K.Rowling. Not because of genre, but because he was the guy who got kids to read while the “litterature snobs” huffed and puffed and thought it wasn’t “good litterature”. Of course when you’re a kid you don’t want good litterature, you want funny and exciting and cool stuff. And Dennis’ books are full of that. It’s funny to read them again today and see that, yeah, some of them aren’t exactly works of art. But they got me reading and they are still lots of fun. He made me want to be a writer too. His bio goes something like “Dennis was too lazy to get a real job. So to find a job where he could decide his own hours, he decided to become a writer”. I can totally relate to that. Hah. I still want to be a writer. Some day. I think I can write okay. I mean.. well. I just need proper ideas and the stamina to actually go through with it. I’ll do it right after I learn to play the guitar, I swear.

Seriously, I would like to write something semi-biographical. Something about loneliness and phobia and isolation and the blood running down your arms and the days after days of emptiness and sadness and how it is to hurt when you’re in a crowd. And so on and so forth. And something about goats, of course. Dr. Strangeplume or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Goats.

I remember our class teacher and our school librarian (that was back when school’s had libraries with actual books and stuff) tried to get me to read “proper books” instead of all the ghost stories that I loved so much. Haha. In particular I remember the school librarian trying to get me to read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. At first I thought it sounded really cool, but then I realized that it was fiction and not an actual guide to hitchhiking in the galaxy. Boy was I disappointed! A couple of years went by before I tried that series again and fell in love with the crazy humour. Maybe I should try re-reading those books too. Nostalgia is a funny feeling.

Also funny feeling? this scene from the finale of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. And by funny I mean violent and not suitable for children. But that is beautifully done. And how awesome is Johnny Cash? Funny thing about Johnny Cash? Both my mother and I love him. Not many artists you can say that about. But then, who don’t like Cash? His Hurt cover is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Put a million current top ten artists at a million musical typewriters and you’d never come up with anything that has a 1/1000th of that feeling.

Alternate title for this entry? When The Plume Comes Around.

*Scott was in the kitchen frying bacon in his underpants* – you had me laughing and snorting at that one, Plumey. My husband has underpants like that!!! hee, hee, heeeeee (I read that the second time and just about lost it, it was so funny.)

Reading: I’ve read “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close”. I want to re-read it, but haven’t as it is almost painful knowing about what happens to the boy’s dad. I need to re-read “Slaughterhouse 5”, it’s been awhile since I’ve read it.

I love Johnny Cash! I had just listened to some of the old classics. I think there was some TV commercial or something on … so I just heard a little bit of “Hurt”. So I thought to myself to look it up on youtube.

The first time I watched the whole “Hurt” video, I don’t think I was breathing. I was just so overwhelmed by his voice, the words, and the emotional pain.

I had never heard it before except that little snippet on the commercial (and I don’t even remember what the commercial was about now.) I had to watch the video several times and then I bought a cd with that song on it.

I just e-mailed you some pictures of Frankie on the four-wheeler and on our truck hood. He’s looking for the keys and he’s ready to go. What a fearless goatzie he is!

PS: The mailman will be bringing you something soon. I just mailed it today. Surprise! Hope you like it.

Debster – It’s a good thing goats don’t wear underpants! Or maybe not. I don’t know. Now I’m starting to picture a goat all dressed up.. like one of those chimps from TV. My mind wanders…
Annyway. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is a top favorite of mine. Slaughterhouse is next on the list. I planned to start it yesterday, until I fell asleep and the day disappeard. Oops.
The Hurt video just floors you, don’t it? Profoundly moving. Yup. There’s something about Cash.
Thank you for the pictures of Frankie! So much fun. Once goats learn to turn on our machines, they’ll take over the world. Why would they even need us anymore? Except maybe for pets. I’d like to be a pet for the goats. As long as they remembered to feed me plenty of raisins and nuts!
