Penfield Mood Organ
Yesterday I got done reading Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?. And today I watched the move, Blade Runner. There are some big differences between the book and the movie. Not just the title. One of the differences is the goat.
Yes, there’s a goat in the book. Deckard buys a goat. In the book real animals are very rare, many races extinct. And it’s considered your civic duty to care for a live animal. If you can’t afford a live animal then you get an electric one and pretend. Deckard has an electric sheep. But he buys a real goat. I liked that. The scene where he brings it home to his wife (who isn’t in the movie either). Unfortunately the goat is killed by the end of the book. Pushed off a rooftop by an android. Ain’t it just the way…
Blade Runner is not the only Harrison Ford movie I have watched lately. Also the Indiana Jones trilogy. I got the boxset for… my birthday? Or christmas? I forget. Anyhow, now that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is out, I thought it was about time to rewatch the original trilogy. What a treat. I love Indy. I’m sure most “boys” my age do. He’s so iconic. Who wouldn’t want to be like Harrison Ford. Indiana Jones. Han Solo. The hero, but not in a Goody Two-shoes way. Too cool for words.
Other things I have been doing to distract myself? There’s my new computer. I have installed a couple of the latest games and they are running like a dream. Computah powah. Here are a couple of pictures from when I was setting the new computer up, before the bad thing happened.
It’s a little less messy by now. A little. My new computer on the right. With the Magnethe/Mads picture on the desktop. I love that picture. It’s one of my favourite pictures. They look so sweet together there. The desktop on my old computer is now this. So lots of goat sweetness on my desktops.
I went to the playground today. I forgot it’s a holiday, though. More or less. Grundlovsdag. So it was closed. But I still went in and spent some time with the goats of course. Chokolade was very into getting her head and neck scratched. They are such cute little girls. And by “little” I mean “giant”, of course. They grow so fast. Next time I will try to remember my camera so I can show you how big they have gotten.
The weather report: It’s frigging hot. I have mentioned that I feel less resistant to cold. On the other end of the spectrum, I feel I’m dealing better with heat. Even finding it lovely. I don’t know, maybe I’m not even a winter person anymore? I do still find snow extraordinarily beautiful. But if I could choose right now, I would choose summer. Don’t ever say that people can’t change…
I still find the heat a little troubling at night, though. When it gets really hot. But at least my feet aren’t freezing.
The European Championship is about to start. Soccer, suckers. Unfortunately Denmark ain’t in it. So it’s not going to be too exciting. A lot of the European teams are quite boring and play defensively. It’s all tactics. I like the Word Cup, when you get to see teams from Asia and Africa and North America. They’re usually more fun. Plus you rarely get to see them. I’d much rather see Argentina-Brazil or Jamaica-Honduras than Italy-France or Greece-Portugal. No offense, fellow Europeans.
And so on and so forth. Must find more distractions.
Keep a lid on things.

“Happy Constitution Day” to you, too!
I thought I was looking at the NASA space center desk there for a moment before I realized it was your computer set-up. Reminded me of that Mars landing thing that just happened.
Only NASA didn’t have cute goats landing on Mars!
It’s been hot here. We’re working in a 153 year old church (no air conditioning or heat). It has a 22 foot barrel ceiling my poor husband painted, while I anchored the ladder.
It is hot in the loft as well. We worked up there for awhile this afternoon. Good think there was a brisk breeze blowing (even if it was hot).
We have a good chance for rain for the next 9 days, so glad we do have inside work. It rains in the mornings, then gets hot, humid and sunny in the afternoons. We are wore out at the end of the day.

My goodness! A barrel ceiling! Those are very, very difficult to paint. Thank goodness you’re there to hold onto the ladder, Debster. Be sure that he takes care of his neck. It’s a very awkward position to be in while painting something really hard.
I can’t imagine working in humid conditions. We don’t get much humidity in San Diego and when we do, the entire city literally shuts down. Only those from the midwest, east coast, and the south make fun of us natives. So take lots of rest.
Man, what a cool looking computer! Sleek and black and oh so sophisitcated!
Also, Plume, think about getting that cat once you get back from your trip this fall. You have much love to give and having a cat at your place will be a great outlet along with the animals at the playground.

I just saw this on the internet, it’s funny. I wonder where she thought she was going?

Debster – I was worried that you Americans would think that grundlovsdag was something like groundhog day. But you got it right. I wonder if our constitution saw its own shadow? The weather is supposed to get a little colder, you never know.
Do you get to pick the colour when you paint a church? I wonder what god would say if his house was painted bright pink. Actually I think god would be down with that. The churchgoers, I’m not so sure.
That was a nice video. Poppy went for a ride. I like her baah. She looks like a sweet goat. In the future I bet it will be normal for goats to take the bus. Why not? Maybe Poppy will be the new Rosa Parks.
LuisLemmings – You should see my computer in the dark. It shines funky blue light. I keep expecting it to talk back to my like some futurustic AI computer. “I can’t let you do that, Plume..”
Thinking about cats is a good idea, very so.

Well actually, I did first think of Groundhog Day! We are on the same wave length, isn’t that scary?
I looked it up on Wikipedia so I wouldn’t wish you a “Happy Groundhog Day” and look really stupid!
The church color was a big issue. First it was going to be similar to what was on it (an off white with a pinkish hint). One of the board members, on the night before we’re to start wanted to change colors.
So we had to get some sample quarts (which no one liked) and then that board member brought up about 20 more color cards to look at!
One member (who hired us) picked one of the sample colors as the accent color and then had the formula reduced to 40% of the color for the walls and ceiling.
It looks really great. It’s a nice ivory color. It’s a very plain church, so I don’t think pink would have gone over very well anyway.
We primed window panes in the sashes on Sat. There are 32 panes in each window. And there are 8 extremely tall windows. My husband friend helped us on that. It went pretty good considering it was very hot, then it rained, then it got more humid and hotter (if that is possible).
When you go to Greenland, will you get to see the musk ox? I think they are such a neat animal.

Debster – Painting is a very complicated thing. I don’t know how you do it. One brushstroke at a time I gues.
I do think there is some kind of ox-tour in the Greenland package. Maybe I’ll get to ride in a sleigh. With dogs and such.
