Good goat times today. Cold morning, but not so cold that I couldn’t survive in my t-shirt and light jacket. Thankful for that. And it stayed dry (until it was time for me to walk home, funny how it often seems to work out like that…). It is still mud season though. Must have rained last night. Mud mud mud. Goats reluctant to get to the fence even for treats.
I did some work today to help the problem. Putting pavement tiles and wooden planks down to make walkways. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best I can do with what I have. I’ll get some pics up later.
We hadkids visiting in the morning. There was a lot of bleating going on. By the human kids, not least. Haha. They asked questions and bleated with the goats. At one point the adult who was with them said “now I think we should just listen to the goats” to which a little boy shouted “NO” and then a little girl beated loudly and Nuller and Lily bleated back. I might need to start wearing earplugs.
We had a good walk around later, met some nice people. Another woman remarked about watching out for ‘the one with number 18″. Number of the beast. Milo did have a a couple of close calls with kids too, but no one got hurt. Phew!
Not much green left now. The goats had to walk around and pick brown, fallen leaves for a bit. Probably no good nutrition in those, but hey at least I get them out of the pen and give them something to do. Out of the mud and into the flying prance.

Here is one of the new arrangements. I put down some pavement right up to the fence, so the goats can get all the way up to it. For the benefit of human visitors that want to pet them. And me. It has happened often when I arrive in the morning and the mud is bad there will be goats on the rocks and I’ll be reaching over the fence to give a treat but I can’t reach far enough and they don’t want to get off the rocks because of the mud. Now they can get close to the fence, so that’s something.

Here’s the walkway I made from the goathouse. It’s not great, but it’s something. The newbies quickly got the idea. Tiptoeing across it to get to the treatbag.
Mia? Not so much. I stood for like 10 minutes trying to coax her to get down from the tower-platform and walk across it. She was not interested, not even a little. It’s funny how she’s very eager to get treats… but she’s also keenly avare of when I’m trying to lure her with treats. It’s the same thing when I’m trying to get her to come back in through the gate after we’ve been out in the greens. She knows that if she goes for the treats I’ll be closing the gate behind her.
Anyway, she did eventually walk across the planks. Once. I’m sure she’ll get the hang of it. Better than stepping through the mud. it’s pretty bad right in front of the goat house.

If there is one album that defined my musical life, it’s probably Mellon Collie. Adore is my favourite. But mcis rocketed me into a life of pumpkiness. When I got my cd player I went looking for that song I had heard on the radio. Disarm. Turns out I couldn’t find the cd with that song, but they had mellon collie,. so I got that. A double album full of crazy wonder, the pumpkins went from that band that had those songs I probably liked, to the band that shaped my life. When music became something that mattered to me, it was very much the smashing pumpkins. Pink ribbon scare that never forget, yall.

Oh by the way, for those of you who don’t know why my facebook username is ‘djaliplume’, it’s because of the Smashing Pumpkins.
Back in the dawn of time, before social media and triggered snowflakes, I had to sign up for a thing called diaryland. Which is exactly what it sounds like, a land full of diaries. In which people wrote real things instead of retweeting cat photos and antagonizing nazis. Anyway. As was the custom of the time, I wanted a songname for my username. And since I liked the Smashing Pumpkins, I thought I’d go for the name ‘Obscured’ which was a song of their and also sounded kinda cool for a name of a diary by someone you don’t know and who is, in fact, obscured, over the dsl lines. Unfortunately that name was already taken. So I went for ‘Plume’ instead. Which is also a song. And hey, you can write with a plume and stuff. So that became my name. And for many, many years I was just Plume. That was my name. There are still some people from back in the day whomst might refer to me just as Plume. It was only really with the advent of Facebook and it’s unjust requirement of real identity that I started becoming Lasse, instead of Plume. Today I am more Lasse than Plume, but I am still Plume. I am Lasseplume.
Oh, and djaliplume is because plume is a very commonly used username and so whnever I go to sign up for something, invariably Plume is already taken. The ‘djali’ part does not mean DJ Ali. It refer to another Billy Corgan band, Zwan. The band he formed after the breakup of the Smashing Pumpkins. They kinda had different iterations, and the acoustic, and arguably best, version was called the djali zwan. So I took the djali to put on plume to make a username.

Good goat times today. Skipping through mud and browsing brown leaves on the ground. A few sweet visitors, and no Milo maulings. Spent a good long time sitting on the bench with Mia. She sat down next to me. Nestled her head between my arm and chest. I could feel her chewing her cud. And then she stopped. I don’t know if she dozed off and took a nap, or if she was just relaxing. But it was perfect calm sitting there like that with her.
