Jolly Old Plume

Had a checkup at the hospital today. To see how the right eye was doing. Unfortunately the pressure hasn’t dropped. That surprised me a little. Because it’s been feeling better. No pain and rarely watering. I was expecting it to have gotten better. But oh well. We’re wait a while longer and see how it goes. As long as it’s not bothering me then it’s no problem. I’m not sure if they will want to laser it again if the pressure doesn’t drop. But for now there’s nothing new. We made an appointment in January. And they’ll look at my left eye then as well. It is about time to have the oil removed. That will be interesting. That is pretty much the last step. Once that is done and settled then I’ll be… done. Then we’ll see what condition my eyesight will be in. What I’ll have to live with. But for now it’s a break until January. Unless something unforeseen happens. Which it tends to. But maybe I’ll be lucky and not suffer any new surprises.

Yesterday I had quite a nice time. I managed to go to the playground, all on my own. My first time taking the bus on my own since my eyesight got really bad. It went very well. The cane helps a ton. It’s much easier when people can tell that you’re sight handicapped. And I don’t have to worry about them not understanding if I bump into them.

So now I have made it to all my three destination targets on my own. Føtex, parents and playground. It’s good to know I can get there. And I feel pretty confident with the cane. So that is very good indeed.

I had a swell time with the goats, of course. The buck wasn’t there anymore. Just the sisters and I. I guess his job is done. Let’s hope for some sweet goat babies next year. That will be quite delightful. And with my cane I sthould be able to come visit more often.

The goats don’t like the cane though. They don’t mind it as long as it’s lying on the bench, behind me. I had to stop them from nibbling on it even. But when it gets time for me to leave and I pick up the cane, then they get scared and run away from me. Both Magnethe and Vanilje. Then when they see I’m not charging at them with it, then they come slowly back. It’s happened both time I’ve been there with the cane. Maybe they’ll get used to it later on.

There were a bunch of human kids there yesterdayl. They came up to the fence, curious as to why I was sitting in there with the goats. They asked some questions. What the goats’ names were and such. It was nice to get to share some goat knowledge again. And then they seemed to have a scavenger hunt of sort. They were looking for “nisser”. I never know what to call nisser in English. Santa’s helpers or garden gnomes or elves or whataever. But you get the idea. All the kids were running around, yelling “nisser?! Niiisser?!”. And they came to the fence and asked if I had seen any. I had not. I thought maybe someone from the playground had dressed up as a nisse and was hiding, but it turned out to be some figures or pictures or something, that had been hidden around the premisses. Good fun though.

Meanwhile, I spent a lot of money on amazon. Isn’t it just typical that right when I get my own credit card and am finally able to buy stuff on the net, I lost my eyesight so there’s no point in buying all the books I wanted from amazon… But I have just ordered for aroun 300 dollars worth of DVDs now. That may sound like a lot. But it should be noted that I saved around 800 dollars in the process. I stumbled upon their “save up to 70% on DVD box sets” offer. So I have spent a lot of money, but I have made a gigantic saving. I am pleased with that. It all started because I was in the mood for watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer again. I looked for the complete collection on the DVD selling site I usually use. But they didn’t have it. They had individual seasons, at a rather high price. So I went to amazon. And found the complete collection costing at almost the same price as one season on the Danish site. I couldn’t resist that. And also ended up getting Angel, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, the Star Wars prequel trilogy, two seasons of 30 Rock and The Neverending Story. Merry christmas to me! Good thing I have lots of money in the bank. And to not be a completely selfish comsumer I am also intending to give some christmas presents for friends, through amazon as well. I made the offer on my facebook, and I’ll extend it here as well. If you have an amazon wishlist and you give me the link, then I will get you a present for christmas. You do not have to get me anything in return. I was hoping this year to finally make a proper homemade christmas card again. But with the way things have gone eyesightwise, I obviously will not be able to do that. And the half-homemade presents that I made a few of last year won’t be possible either. But I’d be happy to get you guys something through amazon, that I can manage. And it really does make me happy. With my current condition I have less use of my money (when I’m not doing crazy amaon supersaving purchases at least), so I’m happy to spend some of it on making people I know happy. It’s a good feeling, when you have the chance.

So if you have an amazon wishlist then leave me the link if you want a present. And you can always go to amazon.com and make a list if you don’t have one. It’s pretty easy, if I recall correctly.

Merry December!

The Never-ending Story – I read that book a long time ago, before the movie. I recently got a used copy of the book to reread again and then we saw part of the movie on tv the other day.

Hooray that you went to all the places you wanted to go to! I’ll bet the goats were glad to see you. They’ll get used to the cane, I’m sure. Our boys were afraid of us that first winter when we came outside with our coats and hats on.

When I have my hood up on my sweatshirt, the kittens even notice and try to climb up on my lap and look and look at what’s on my head. Who knew animals were so fashion conscious!

We went to visit the donkey herd where we got Snickers. Those donkeys are so mild mannered compared to Snickers. Even the little jack was nice. I looked around at my husband and at one time he was surrounded by 4 donkeys. I had one of the females and the baby that I was scratching.

Having an extra pair of hands would be great when you’re trying not to miss scratching a warm furry donkey.

I agree with debster, i’m sure the goats were happy to see you! How nice that you can get to your three main places on your own now-that will make you so much more independent :) The gift offer is wonderful, but I have a hard time thinking up things to wish for from my relatives, I honestly have everything I could possibly need! (unless we are talking animals, in which case I would like an alaskan malamute puppy, two kittens, a bunny, a donkey, a pony and a couple of goats! But I don’t think amazon has those ;)

debster – I saw the movie first.. and loved it. Then later on found the book, and it was like a million times longer than the movie, I seem to recall. I’m not sure I’d ever read a book that long before. Or maybe I’m thinking of another book.. hmm.. Anyway, I remember completely loving the idea of the kid reading the book and getting sucked in. That’s what -I- wanted to happen to me!
I once had a “writing club” with a couple of friends from school. We wanted to be writers so we practiced.. I only think we got around to writing one or two stories each. I remember I wrote a short story about a kid who got trapped in a library or something like that, and he got sucked into the books.. I wonder where I got the idea from hmm!
I think we spent most of the time writing titles instead of stories. Hah. We had notebooks full of book titles that didn’t have any stories connected to them. We’d just make up cool titles. As far as I know none of us turned out to be famous writers. Oh well. Good memories anyway.
Do you think the donkey people (as I’m sure they like to be refered to as) gave you the one demon donkey and kept all the well-behaved ones for themselves? Or maybe Snickers have just spent too much time around goats, that’d make anyone naughty heehee.

Katrine – They seemed very happy to see me. I know I was thrilled to see them. Always am. I don’t think amazon sells goats. Probably a good thing, otherwise I’d be broke in no time!

Never Ending Story was the first book I got out at the library when I was able to read myself. I was about 8. The librarian thought it was a bit of a mouthful and that I wouldn’t be able to read it, which is why I did. But it was HARD – mainly because all the names were so weird and long. But it did make me decide that my son in a distant future should be called Sebastian. Then, when I was actually having a son, Adam and I decided on Arthur, because that’s Adam’s granddad’s name. So, we thought Arthur Sebastian would be nice, so that’s what Arthur was called all the way from August 8th 2005 and until shortly before his Christening in March 2008, when Adam asked me if it was alright we name him after his mate, Jozef, who died some years before. I couldn’t really say no to that, wherefore Arthur is now Arthur Josef! But when Adam tells him off, he sometimes says in a stern voice “Arthur Sebastian, what are you doing!?” and it makes me laugh! I guess it’s hard to stop thinking baout him being Arthur Sebastian as that was his name some 1½ years before he was even conceived!

If we ever have another child and it’s a boy, he shall be called Hamlet Sebastian. If it’s a girl, I want to call her Dana. :)

desiree – That was quite a big book for an 8 year old yes. I think I must have been 12-13 when I read it. Something like that.
If I start lobbying now do you think there’s a chance that your next possible son could be called Lasse somewhere in his name? Maybe if I work hard enough then it’ll stick in the end! Hehe, Nah, I think you’re doing very well with the names. And the kids. They’re a lovely couple, and I’m sure if you get more then they will be equally lovely.

    Dearest Plume,
First things first: My husband just popped his head through the door to relay a message to you: He has to carefulle arrange the hearts on the teddu every night so Raven can see both the goats and the hearts as she falls asleep! Well make a goat friend of her yet, Plume!

Secondly, a little late, I know, but as you requested, I’ve done a wish list with the help of my kids. I tell you, it was MAYHEM! But it was very much trains (Thomas), postman pat, princesses, hello kitty and the classic all things DUPLO. But honestly, Plume, you don’t need to give them anything at all!

Anyways, here’s the link, though I’m sure you could probably come up with something even better yourself! ;)

Desiree – Aw, that is just precious! You guys make me happy. And of course I’ll get them something. I wish I could come over for christmas and be like eccentric uncle Plume or something haha. But maybe in another life.
